Wayne Hennessy, goalkeeper for Wales and Crystal Palace FC, and Dr Ryland Morgans, Head of Performance for the Wales squad and Crystal Palace FC are supporting our Know Your Risk initiative.

Our free online Know Your Risk tool asks simple questions to assess your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, based on things like weight, age and ethnicity.

A quick check

Wayne Hennessey said: “In Wales, 188,000 patients live with diabetes, and around 90 per cent of these are estimated to have Type 2. My home town is Bangor in North Wales, where there are 40,000 patients with diabetes, higher than anywhere else in Wales, so I hope anyone who thinks they might have Type 2 will go on to Diabetes UK’s Know Your Risk site. It only takes two minutes and it could be one of the most important things you do.”

Careful management

Ryland Morgans said: “Wales has the highest prevalence of diabetes in the UK as 7.1 per cent of people aged 17 and over are living with the condition. Diabetes UK estimates that a further 57,000 people in Wales live with Type 2 diabetes but have not yet been diagnosed.

“As someone with Type 1 diabetes, I know my diabetes has to be carefully managed but there are steps you can take to look after yourself. So I hope everyone who thinks there may be a chance they are affected, will check out Diabetes UK’s online Know Your Risk tool."
