Our response to court ruling on access to medication and hypo treatments

We have issued a statement to a court ruling, confirming that people with diabetes should not be denied access to medication or treatments to help them manage their condition.

Helen Dickens, our Assistant Director of Campaigns and Mobilisation said:

“Diabetes is a serious, lifelong condition that needs to be carefully self-managed. It is vital that people with diabetes are able to access medication and hypo treatments quickly if they need them, otherwise it could lead to serious health complications, such as unconsciousness.

“It is important that people working with the public put reasonable adjustments in place to ensure people with diabetes are not discriminated against and are able to easily access treatment. The Disability Discrimination Act protects people with diabetes and it is important people with the condition understand their rights in case they are in a situation where their health is put at risk. If you have any concerns, please visit our website or call the helpline on 0345 123 2399.”
