First Roadshow of 2006 visits Bristol

The first Diabetes UK roadshow in 2006 comes to Bristol on 1 and 2 September 2006 outside the Broadmead Shopping Centre at Broadmead Podium from 9am to 6pm.

The roadshow aims to raise awareness of diabetes, particularly among those at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.Recent figures show that in Bristol, one in three of the estimated diabetic population (33.1 per cent) have not been diagnosed.

“It is a tragedy that thousands of people are going about their daily lives unaware they have a condition that puts them at greater risk of heart disease, blindness, kidney failure and amputations," said Jan Tyrrell, South West Regional Manager for Diabetes UK."Around half of people with Type 2 diabetes are already showing signs of complications when they are first diagnosed.""Early diagnosis is essential so people can start managing their diabetes to reduce the risk of such devastating complications."Lloydspharmacy will also be there on Friday 1 September, offering free diabetes screening.Diabetes UK Care Advisors and a Counsellor from the Diabetes UK Careline will be available throughout the day to provide information and support to anyone affected by diabetes. The unit will be parked outside the Broadmead Shopping Centre at Broadmead Podium, in the heart of the city centre, from 9am to 6pm on Friday 1 September and Saturday 2 September.
