Conservatives reveal healthcare policies

David Cameron yesterday announced his party's plans to reform healthcare policies.

One of the key elements of the Conservative policies is to get rid of health service targets and focus on the health outcomes of patients.

"The National Service Frameworks for diabetes in the four nations are a valuable resource for people with diabetes, patient organisations healthcare professionals and NHS decision makers," said Penny Mordaunt, Director of Campaigning at Diabetes UK.

"They set out minimum standards and are clear on what care people with diabetes should receive.

"Although we are seeing improvements, there are significant problems with delivery, particularly for children and young people with diabetes. Feedback from our members indicates that in some cases the situation is getting worse.

"We welcome a focus on outcomes but it is vital that patients know and have some guarantees as to what care they should be receiving. It is also essential the government and primary care organisations are held to account."
