Measure Up Roadshow in full swing

The Measure Up campaign’s legendary bright magenta lorry has begun visiting cities across the UK, helping to raise awareness of Type 2 diabetes – a condition that affects 1.9 million people in the UK and a further 750,000 who don’t yet know it.

The 2007 Measure Up Roadshow will be stopping in shopping centres and town centres across the country, offering the latest information on diabetes, free diabetes screening for those at risk, and friendly healthcare professionals to answer any questions.

The first Measure Up Roadshow of the year was held in August in Southampton and was a huge success. 355 visitors were tested for Type 2 diabetes and over 700 goodie bags containing informative leaflets and tasty cereal samples were handed out.

The Coventry Measure Up Roadshow, which took place the following weekend, attracted an even larger crowd: 370 visitors had their blood glucose levels tested and 1,000 goodies bags were distributed – along with hundreds of bright magenta balloons! The next stop was Guildhall Square in Salisbury, which turned out to be equally as popular.

If you have diabetes, know someone with diabetes, or are worried you could be at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes – come along to a Measure Up Roadshow near you. The well-known magenta lorry will be visiting Falkirk, Lewisham, Crewe and the Great North Run this September.

The Diabetes UK Measure Up Roadshow is free and children are welcome.
