Big night of television celebrity support for Diabetes UK

This Saturday sees a double-header of Diabetes UK supporters on prime-time television.

Joe Pasquale will be competing for Diabetes UK on the celebrity edition of the game show The Chase, and Amelia Lily – who has Type 1 diabetes – has made it to the X-Factor final. Look out for them if you’re at home in front of the TV.

The Chase

Comedian and Diabetes UK supporter Joe Pasquale, whose daughter has Type 1 diabetes, ran the Virgin London Marathon for Diabetes UK this year. He also recently won £10,000 for Diabetes UK on Celebrity Family Fortunes.

On Saturday he will be putting his quiz knowledge to the test against the Chasers, along with Janet Street-Porter, Mark Durden-Smith and Austin Healey. The Chase will be on ITV at 6pm.

The X-Factor

Diabetes UK supporter Amelia Lily has successfully made it to the X-Factor final. The 17-year-old singer was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of three, and hopes to inspire other young people with the condition.

She told Diabetes UK, "It’s really important to show other people with diabetes, particularly children, that it is possible to take on challenges in life the same way other people do. Having diabetes is no barrier to getting up on stage and performing in front of thousands of people and a television audience of millions.

"Until now not many people have known I have diabetes, but I think it’s important to get people talking about diabetes and for me to show other young people and children that you can still get out there and follow your dreams."

Amelia was voted into the final three by the public last weekend, and is up against girl-band Little Mix and solo performer Marcus Collins. The winner gets a record contract. Watch the X-Factor final on ITV at 8pm.
