Diabetes UK scoops top national award

Diabetes UK has won one of the most prestigious accolades to be awarded in the UK charity sector at The Charity Awards 2011.

Our Measure Up Roadshow programme was chosen for the Healthcare and Medical Research award at last night’s ceremony in London, ahead of Alzheimer’s & Dementia Support Services and Leicestershire AIDS Support Services (LASS).

Healthcare and Medical Research award

Diabetes UK Roadshow Manager Olivia Steed-Mundin, and Roadshow Executive, Louise Mannix, collected the award at a gala dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel, in front of 1,000 of the charity world’s most senior representatives and celebrity guests, including comedian Hugh Dennis, author Monica Ali, star of TV programme Strictly Come Dancing Bruno Tonioli and newsreader Krishnan Guru-Murthy, who presented awards in 10 separate categories.

'Fantastic to be recognised'

“We are absolutely thrilled to have been awarded such an accolade,” said Olivia.

“It’s fantastic to be recognised among our peers and is testament to the hard work and dedication of all those involved. The roadshow buses travel around the country raising awareness of diabetes and the importance of healthy lifestyles.

“A huge thanks to all the teams across Diabetes UK who helped us deliver the roadshows, particularly the regional and national offices, and their wonderful volunteers.”

Outstanding example of best practice

The winning charities are chosen for specific initiatives which have improved the delivery of their charitable objectives and which demonstrate outstanding examples of best practice from which other charities can learn.
