Over-55s urged to get their Wills written for free during March

Diabetes UK is asking people aged 55 and over in the towns listed below to get their Wills written or updated for free during March and include the charity as a beneficiary.

Free Wills Month offers members of the public aged 55 and over the opportunity to have their simple Wills written or updated for free by using participating solicitors in selected locations around England.

The charity is encouraging everyone aged 55 and over to take up this opportunity as an up-to-date Will written by a solicitor ensures your wishes are respected and it avoids difficult decisions and legal complications for your loved ones. Whether or not you are eligible for Free Wills Month, writing or updating your will is a good way for adults of any age to provide for family and friends and leave a gift to your chosen charities.

The towns

People in the following towns and areas can take part in the scheme:

  • Chesterfield
  • Chichester/Worthing
  • Darlington
  • Harrogate
  • Kent
  • Liverpool
  • Northampton
  • Peterborough
  • Sheffield
  • Wirral

Legacies can make a huge difference

Only seven per cent of us give to charities in our Wills, but legacies can make a huge difference. Gifts left to Diabetes UK will be used to help us care for, connect, and campaign alongside even more people living with diabetes as we continue our work to manage, prevent and, one day, cure the condition currently affecting 4 million people.

Becky Lackey, Senior Legacy Manager at Diabetes UK, said: “Diabetes is serious – it can lead to devastating complications such as blindness, kidney failure, heart disease, stroke and amputation. Donations help us support people to manage their condition, as well as to reach people at risk of Type 2 diabetes, and fund pioneering research.

“There is no obligation to leave to a charity during Free Wills Month but it’s the perfect time to add one in to your Will. Don’t leave it too late to book an appointment as they are limited and allocated on a first come first served basis.”
