Over-55s urged to get their Wills written for free during October

Diabetes UK is asking people, aged 55 and over in the towns listed below, to get their Wills written or updated for free during October and include the charity as a beneficiary.

Diabetes UK is one of 10 charities involved in Free Wills Month this October, which offers members of the public aged 55 and over the opportunity to have their simple Wills written or updated for free by using participating solicitors in selected locations around England.

The charity is encouraging everyone aged 55 and over to take up this opportunity as an up-to-date Will written by a solicitor ensures your wishes are respected and it avoids difficult decisions and legal complications for your loved ones. Free Wills Month also allows you to provide for family and friends and leave a gift to your chosen charities.

The towns

People in the following towns and areas can take part in the scheme:

  • Birmingham
  • Bolton
  • Cornwall
  • Ipswich
  • Kingston Upon Hull
  • Lancaster
  • Milton Keynes
  • Shropshire
  • Stockport
  • Wakefield

Only seven per cent of us give to charities in our Wills, but legacies can make a huge difference. Gifts left to Diabetes UK will be used to help us care for, connect, and campaign alongside even more people living with diabetes as we continue our work to manage, prevent and, one day, cure the condition currently affecting 3.9 million people.

'Don't leave it too late'

Katie Wimpenny, Diabetes UK Legacy Executive, said, “Diabetes is serious – it can lead to devastating complications such as blindness, kidney failure, heart disease, stroke and amputation. Donations help us support people to manage their condition, as well as to reach people at risk of Type 2 diabetes, and fund pioneering research.

“There is no obligation to leave to a charity during Free Wills Month but it’s the perfect time to add one in to your will. Don’t leave it too late to book an appointment as they are limited and allocated on a first come first served basis.”

Visit theFree Wills Month website to find details of your closest participating solicitors and view information about the charities who are supporting the campaign.
