Pharmacy Leaders

We know the role of pharmacists in diabetes care is growing as a result of their unique position within the healthcare system, which enables them to provide more personalised care to people living with diabetes.

In a time of unprecedented demand and complexity in our healthcare system, it can be hard to know where to start when trying to improve diabetes care. Our Pharmacy Leaders programme aims to identify future pharmacist leaders and equip them with the skills and experience necessary to make tangible improvements to diabetes care across their local systems

Course Content

The course content is a mixture of theoretical knowledge and practical understanding needed be an inspiring leader and deliver service improvement.

Module 1 and 2

Modules 1 and 2 will comprise of formal leadership training at the Leicester Diabetes Centre – national and international centre of excellence for Type 2 diabetes research, education and innovation.

  • Building collaborative working relationships – developing key skills around inter-personal relationships and influencing others.
  • Leadership – as a leadership programme this theme will be at the centre of the programme throughout its delivery with focus on strategic context, developing vision, innovation and service development.
  • Research and Evaluation – with focus on demonstrating the value of pharmacists in service provision

Module 3

Module 3 will comprise of regional Action Learning Sets. Action Learning sets are a great way to work through issues, share ideas and challenge perceptions in a trusting, supportive environment.

Module 4

Module 4 will be an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the group and network with other inspiring leaders inside and outside of pharmacy, sharing best practice and innovation.

Who is the programme for?

Our Pharmacy Leaders programme is aimed at experienced practicing pharmacists with the ambition and ability to improve diabetes care and deliver evidence based change across their local system.

Dates and how to apply

Module 1 (days 1 and 2)

Thursday 4 to Friday 5 April 2019 - Leicester Diabetes Centre

Accommodation will be provided if necessary

Module 2 (day 3)

Thursday 23 May 2019- Leicester Diabetes Centre

Module 3 (day 4)


The Action Learning Set groups and dates will be decided at the first module.

Module 4 (day 5)
