Diabetes UK has developed a one-day course to provide participants with the knowledge and confidence when working with people with diabetes. It is accredited by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) and at the end of the course each participant will receive a certificate to represent the six hours of RCN learning obtained. The course is suitable for healthcare professionals without specialist knowledge of diabetes, care home managers or healthcare assistants, or anyone else that works with people with diabetes.
The course aims to provide attendees with the basic principles of managing the care of a person with diabetes and gives an overview of:
- what diabetes is
- its complications
- medication and treatment
- weight management
- food and diabetes
- monitoring and the impact of diabetes.
