Diabetes Week in Northern Ireland

Diabetes Week 2022 is taking place 13-19 June. We hope that you will get involved in any way that you can. Share our social media posts, chat to friends about diabetes, share your experiences and join in our online sessions.

We're really excited about Diabetes Week this year and hope that you will join with us as we celebrate, highlight, discuss and debate all things diabetes. We have had a busy year and you've told us what really matters to you.

Join us for one of our online sessions:

  • Happy Hormones Masterclass - Monday 13th June, 7.30pm - 9pm
    • Hear from experts about your hormones and how to prepare for the perimenopause and menopause. Register today so you don't miss out.
  • Mindfulness session with Lisa -  Thursday 16th June, 7.30pm - 9.30p
    • Mindfulness is the practice of focusing on or being aware of what you're sensing and how you're feeling in the moment. Lisa will take us through a variety of mindfulness techniques and ways of relaxing so even if some of them don’t suit you hopefully you will find something that works for you. Much like exercise, mindfulness is something that gets better and more effective with practice. Register for this session - you must be over the age of 18 to attend.

Live Well Hub

If you are in the Kircubbin area then please drop in to our Live Well Hub on Tuesday 14 June, 10.30am - 12.30am at the Peninsula Healthy Living Centre, 4 Church Grove, Kircubbin. This is a one stop shop providing information, advice and support to help improve the health and wellbeing of the community. It is open to anyone interested in learning more about diabetes, how to make positive lifestyle changes living with the condition and to those who are worried about their risk. No registration is necessary, just turn up and we'd love to see you there.

Know Your Risk

In Northern Ireland there are over 105,000 people living with diabetes and approximately 90% of those are living with type 2 diabetes. People with type 2 diabetes don’t produce enough insulin or the insulin they produce doesn’t work properly (known as insulin resistance). Our online risk tool, Know Your Risk, can help you assess what you need and to help you talk to your GP about any concerns you might have. If you would like to talk to anyone about our Know Your Risk tool or any other diabetes-related concerns then please call our Helpline on 0345 123 2399.
