Diabetes UK Eastern is made up of a team of staff plus networks of volunteers, local and community groups. We work at a local and regional level to support people affected by diabetes across:
- Essex
- Suffolk
- Norfolk
- Cambridgeshire
- Hertfordshire
- Bedfordshire
In this region, which has a population of around 5 million people, nearly 330,000 people have been diagnosed with diabetes and there are many other people unaware they are living with Type 2 diabetes. We work closely with key decision makers in the Eastern region to ensure diabetes is at the top of the local health agenda. These includes the 19 Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG), NHS & Public Health England for the Eastern Region, and hundreds of healthcare professionals (HCPs).
Collaborative work with our network of Diabetes UK local groups and amazing volunteers has enabled us as a region to deliver many successes in the vital areas of improving care, raising awareness and fundraising.
Improving healthcare
- Campaign for improvements in healthcare for people with diabetes.
- Encourage and support people with diabetes to have a say in their care.
- Work with local health service providers to promote high standards in services and care for all people with diabetes.
Supporting people living with diabetes
- Work with and support the network of Diabetes UK local groups throughout the region to support and empower people living with diabetes.
Working with healthcare professionals
- Work closely with HCPs across the region to ensure diabetes is at the top of the health agenda.
- Attend educational events for healthcare professionals.
- Work to continually improve diabetes services.
Raising awareness
- Raise awareness of diabetes and Diabetes UK in all communities.
- Provide information about all aspects of diabetes and what care to expect.
Raising money
- Raise funds to improve the lives of people with diabetes by running fundraising events and working with local companies and organisations.
- Proud to support many fundraising activities across the East of England including school events, walks and bike rides.
Working with others
- Provide local information and guidance for people with diabetes and their carers, healthcare professionals, government agencies and everyone with an interest in diabetes.
- Work with other organisations to encourage people with diabetes to have their say.
- Encourage and support volunteers who are active in the region, and providing training on a range of subjects.
