South West

There are 200,000 people in the South West with diabetes. We estimate that there are another 60,000 people who have diabetes but don’t know it.

The South West Office opened in 2005.  We aim to:

  • Raise awareness of diabetes so that people know how to care for their diabetes, know what care to expect and find out how Diabetes UK can support them
  • Help give people with diabetes a voice so that they can influence their local services
  • Work in partnership with local health services to promote good care and services that meet local needs
  • Support local health care professionals with a regional conference
  • Support our local voluntary groups
  • Support our many individual volunteers who help campaign, fundraise or support people with diabetes
  • Fundraise to provide the money for research into the causes and treatment of diabetes

Celebrating 75 years of improving lives

In this Diabetes UK's 75 anniversary year, we are celebrating Diabetes UK's achievements in improving lives for people with diabetes with anniversary events in the South West:

  • A childrens celebration party at Devon's Crealy Great Adventure Park on 10 January 2009.  To view some of the photos from the event follow this link.

We have also held thank you events for our volunteers in Dorchester on 28 March, in Bath on 4 April and in Bodmin on 16 May.
