Can type 1 diabetes be cured with medication? 

There is no cure for type 1 diabetes yet. But researchers are working hard to find one. This includes finding new treatments. But the condition can be managed with insulin, the main medication.   

What is the first treatment for type 1 diabetes? 

The first and main medication for type 1 diabetes is insulin, a liquid, you give insulin either as iinjections or it’s released from a small insulin pump you attach to your body. If you have type 1 diabetes, you can’t live without taking insulin. The insulin lets the glucose (sugar) in your blood to enter your cells and fuel your body . In people with type 1 diabetes, the insulin producing cells found in the pancreas don’t make any insulin. Without taking insulin, your blood sugar levels would continue to rise leading to a potentially fatal condition called Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA). 

What is the medicine for type 1 diabetes? 

Insulin is the main medicine for type 1 diabetes. It can only be injected or released by a small insulin pump attached to your body. There are also others ways to help you manage your blood sugar levels. .   

Is there a pill for type 1 diabetes? 

There isn’t a pill for type 1 diabetes. But some people with type 1 diabetes may take a tablet called metformin – as well as insulin. Metformin is a tablet more commonly taken by people with type 2 diabetes. Some people with type 1 diabetes take Metformin to help them treat insulin resistance – where their body’s cells aren’t able to respond properly to the insulin they take.
