Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Week 2024

Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Week is taking place from Monday 20th May to Sunday 26th May this year. We're joining NHS England as proud campaign partners for this annual awareness week.

This Prevention Week we want to shift the focus away from individual responsibility and call on political parties across the UK to take action to help more people reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes, creating a healthier future for everyone.

Prevention week 2022

Our environment is harming our health. Unhealthy food that’s cheaper than fresh fruit and veg. Not having space to exercise, and being bombarded with junk food ads everywhere you turn. Nobody chooses this. But these obstacles put people at higher risk of type 2 diabetes. And increase their chances of life-changing complications.

There are estimated to be more than 4 million people living with type 2 diabetes in the UK, and millions more are at risk of developing the condition. An increasing number of these people are under 40.

We're calling on the government to take decisions now that will determine the health of the next generation. By putting the building blocks of health in place for every child, including quality housing, access to green space, and affordable, healthy food, we can start to reverse this alarming rise of type 2 diabetes in young adults.
