Safe disposal of needles and lancets (sharps)
Diabetes UK is aware that people with diabetes across the UK are not all able to access safe and convenient sharps disposal methods. At the same time the organisation recognises this is an important safety issue and effective systems of disposal must be put in place.
In light of the above Diabetes UK is calling on local councils, healthcare organisations and service commissioners to work together to ensure free, convenient, safe systems of sharps disposal are implemented locally. They must consider the needs of the local population in doing so and the system in place must be well advertised and communicated to people with diabetes.
