Type 1 essentials for children and young people

Is your child getting 10/10?We want to make parents, young people, healthcare professionals, parliamentarians and commissioners aware of the support that all children and young people who have Type 1 diabetes should be receiving.

To do this, we’ve produced a handy guide, the Type 1 essentials for children and young people. It helps parents to understand what good care looks like, and lets them know what to do if their child isn’t getting the care they’re entitled to.

One way you can help us to improve care for children and young people is by taking part in our e-campaign and emailing your MP. Your MP’s support is vital in making sure the right care, checks and help for children and young people are in place in your area.

The 4 Ts of Type 1 diabetes

The 4 Ts campaign aims to raise awareness of the four main Toilet, Thirsty, Tired, Thinnersymptoms of Type 1 diabetes:

  • Toilet
  • Thirsty
  • Tired
  • Thinner

We believe that everyone who knows a child, of any age, should be aware of the 4 Ts of Type 1 diabetes, remember them and know what to do if they spot them.

We are encouraging people to put up posters about the campaign in their local community centre, doctor’s surgery, school and shops. You can order 4 Ts posters for free from our online shop, or download copies to print from the campaign webpage.

You can also watch and share our Type 1 aware video.

Putting Feet First

Worldwide, diabetes-related complications result in the amputation of a lower limb every 30 seconds. It’s estimated that people living with diabetes are 30 times more likely to have an amputation compared to the general population.

The Putting Feet First campaign sets out the key areas that we believe will help dramatically reduce the number of people with diabetes suffering amputations. You can also find out what you can do to help.
