Improving Local Services Together

Improving Local Services Together project

Diabetes UK is supporting the NHS to improve local diabetes care by involving people living with diabetes.

Through the Improving Local Services Together project, funded by the Department of Health, this year we are working with 10 NHS organisations to involve people living with diabetes in service improvement projects.

Diabetes UK has a proven track record of facilitating high-quality service user engagement. We will offer advice, guidance and support over the course of a year to ensure that the organisations’ service improvement work fully involves the people and communities it will benefit.

The organisations

In the first year of the project, Diabetes UK will work with the following organisations to develop their user involvement:

We will be working closely with these organisations to help them design effective mechanisms for user involvement and support them to implement them locally. All of this is aimed at ensuring that people living with diabetes are able to influence decisions over the planning, design and delivery of local diabetes services.

This work will run from November 2012 until September 2013. Throughout the course of the project we will be posting information regarding progress of the project and the individual organisations on this page, so check back here for updates.

A further 10 NHS organisations will be recruited to work with us in the second phase of the project, beginning in October 2013. If this is something that your organisation might be interested in, please register your interest using the contact form.

Other opportunities

Through the Improving Local Services Together Project we will also be offering training and development opportunities to representatives of NHS organisations. This will take the form of Action Learning Sets and Patient Involvement Workshops. These are open to all NHS organisations in England, and are free of charge.

The Action Learning Sets and Patient Involvement Workshops are designed to increase skills and knowledge of how to put in place effective patient engagement models.

If you are interested in attending one of these workshops, please get in touch with the Improving Local Services Together Project Team.
