Diabetes care event to be held in Herefordshire

We're hosting a free event for people who live with, or are affected by diabetes, on Wednesday 30 May, 2018, at The Kindle Centre, Belmont Road, Hereford, HR2 7JE, from 6pm to 8pm.

The event will offer the opportunity to discuss how the condition is managed locally, learn how to live well with diabetes, and what support is available across the county.

The Diabetes Public Engagement event will give local people the opportunity to meet some of the charity’s Midlands team and hear about local support groups, campaigns and other initiatives from the charity on a local and national basis.

Key healthcare professionals will also be on hand to give advice and up-to-date information on local diabetes care and what the future holds. This will include details on education courses, podiatry, nutrition and annual health checks

Harpreet Branng, Diabetes UK West Midlands Improving Care Manager, said:

“Getting the right advice and healthcare support is a vital part of reducing some of the complications associated with poorly-managed diabetes.

“I strongly urge anyone living with the condition, whether it’s Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, to attend this meeting. There will be the opportunity to find out about putting a care plan in place so people can discuss their condition with their healthcare professional in a way that puts them in the driving seat.

“Developing a deeper understanding of diabetes will give people the necessary knowledge to take control of their health. Also it’s a great opportunity to meet and chat with other people living with the condition.”

In Herefordshire there are now more than 10,000 people diagnosed with diabetes and around 90 per cent of these people are living with Type 2 diabetes.
