Diabetes Scotland Young Leaders Project

Following a successful bid to The Big Lottery Fund, a new project is being launched in Scotland to provide young people with Type 1 diabetes the opportunity to develop and deliver innovative youth-led solutions to gaps in support, information and services.

We are now recruiting 30 Young Leaders aged 16-25 from all over Scotland to be part of the project.  We will support these young volunteers to develop new skills, create and engage in activities with peers, and raise wider awareness of Type 1 diabetes. The project will give young people the chance to work together, build confidence to self-manage their condition well and develop solutions to issues facing many young people with Type 1 diabetes across Scotland.

The project is being led by new Diabetes Scotland team member Katie (Catriona) Stewart who joins the charity from Raleigh International with a wealth of youth development experience.

Katie said:  “The Young Leaders Project is designed to empower young people with Type 1 diabetes to take an active role in managing their condition and find solutions to the wider issues that affect the young diabetes community across Scotland.   We are particularly keen to work with young people who feel that their local diabetes services do not meet their needs.

“We’re really excited to begin work on this project, meet our Young Leaders and find out what great ideas they have to improve diabetes care for all young people in Scotland.”
