Know Your Risk of Type 2 diabetes at our event in Pembroke

Calling people across Pembrokeshire: come along to a free event to help find out more about your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

Our Know Your Risk event is coming to Pembroke Town Hall on Tuesday 20 March from 10am to 3pm.

If left untreated or not safely managed, diabetes can lead to devastating complications such as amputation, blindness, heart attack and stroke.

Around 188,000 people in Wales are living with diabetes, and 90 per cent of these have Type 2 diabetes. Worryingly, a further 57,000 people in Wales are estimated to have Type 2 diabetes but are yet to be diagnosed.

Certain factors can contribute to the development of Type 2 diabetes, including your age, weight, and ethnic background. However, by staying active, eating well and maintaining a healthy weight, as many as three in five cases can be prevented.

Join us on 20 March to learn more. Diabetes UK Cymru staff and volunteers will be on hand to help you identify and understand your risk of Type 2 diabetes through a series of simple assessments, as well as provide information and support.

Rhian Liddiard, our Volunteering Manager, said, “Diabetes is the fastest-growing health crisis of our time, and Wales has the highest prevalence of the condition in the UK. We know certain factors put someone at greater risk of developing Type 2 diabetes and that there are steps you can take to prevent or delay it.

“If people know their risk, they can do something about it and avoid the devastating complications which can come as a result of living with diabetes.”

We hope lots of people take this opportunity to come along and learn more about the condition. If you’d like any more information, contact or call 02920 668276.

Can't attend? No problem. Use our free Know Your Risk tool and get support online.
