Newry group organises Living with Diabetes event

Diabetes UK Newry Support Group invites you to join them for a ‘Living with Diabetes’ information and support evening on Tuesday 2 October in Canal Court Hotel in Newry, 7pm-9pm.

Local Southern Trust Diabetes Consultant, Dr Paul McMullan, will provide an insight into the clinical aspects of diabetes, while Queen’s University Belfast Lecturer in Health Psychology, Dr Emma Berry, will share her research into the emotional aspects of living with diabetes.

Diabetes is a condition where there is too much glucose in the blood because the body cannot use it properly. If not managed well, both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes can lead to devastating complications. Over 100,000 people are living with diabetes in Northern Ireland with approximately 90% of those living with Type 2 diabetes. Diabetes UK Northern Ireland is encouraging people to learn more about diabetes to help manage this condition.

Diabetes UK Volunteer Development Manager, Arlene Creighton said, ‘This is a fantastic opportunity to meet with others living with diabetes in the Newry area and find out more about this very serious condition. We are delighted to have two guest speakers who will share their expertise and answer any questions you or your family have about diabetes.

‘This a free event open to everyone living with diabetes including those newly diagnosed or who have been living with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes for many years, family members, and parents of children with diabetes. There will be something for everyone. With the right treatment, knowledge and support, people living with diabetes can lead a long, full and healthy life.’

To register for this event, please email today or call 028 9066 6646.
