Rebekah’s haircut raises £305

Rebekah Reid, from Omagh, recently had 12 inches of her hair chopped off in aid of local charities Little Princess Trust and Diabetes UK Northern Ireland.

The 11-year-old decided to take on this challenge for her little sister, Zarah, who was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. In an effort to help raise awareness about Type 1 diabetes, Rebekah, braved the dramatic haircut and raised £305 for the charity.

Rebekah’s mother, Lorraine, said, ‘We are so proud of Rebekah for doing something so brave, not just for her little sister, but for everyone living with diabetes. We know how hard diabetes can be, it affects the whole family. For Zarah, she knows she has the support and help to manage the condition, but there are many out there who may feel alone. Hopefully we have helped raise awareness and people will start talking about diabetes to find out more about it.

‘We would like to thank everyone who kindly donated and supported Rebekah in this challenge and we are so delighted to have raised so much money.’

Naomi Breen, National Fundraiser for Diabetes UK Northern Ireland, said, ‘Rebekah was very brave to get so much of her hair cut and in doing so, is helping so many people. We would like to thank Rebekah for raising £305 for Diabetes UK Northern Ireland, and the people of Omagh and beyond, who supported her.'
