Seven-year-old Bangor fundraiser wins our Inspire Award

A dedicated volunteer from Bangor, who is just seven years old has won our Inspire Award for her fundraising efforts.

Abie Jackson was presented with the award at a ceremony held at the Titanic Belfast on Saturday 2 June and sponsored by one of NI’s leading electricity suppliers, Click Energy.

Abie asked all her friends and family to donate money to us instead of buying her birthday presents and raised a fantastic amount of money and awareness about her Type 1 diabetes.

Collecting the award, Abie said, “I was shocked when I heard my name called but really excited. I felt really happy to win so thank you to everyone who helped me raise money and thank you for my Inspire Award.”

Jillian Patchett, our National Director said: “Abie is such an inspiration to be so young and so thoughtful, sacrificing her birthday presents to kindly donate money to help others. All of Abie’s friends and relatives supported her generously and as a result, got more people talking about Type 1 diabetes.

“Huge thanks to Abie for her hard work in raising money, and I would like to extend that thanks to all of our fantastic fundraisers – we could not do what we do without your help, dedication and support.”

Click Energy Managing Director, Damian Wilson, added: “The staff at Click Energy selected Diabetes UK Northern Ireland as the charity of the year for our organisation and we are thrilled to have been able to work together on this event as part of our charity partnership.

“The Inspire Awards provide a great platform for recognising and rewarding the contributions of the many volunteers who are doing great work to support those living with diabetes and to raise awareness surrounding the condition in Northern Ireland.”

Each winner received an Inspire Award from us and a gift from Click Energy including £250 vouchers for Hastings Hotels and £250 vouchers for Currys/PC World.
