Diabetes UK has received over £1 million following the outstanding fundraising achievements of HBOS colleagues, customers and shareholders. This is a record-breaking amount for HBOS, and for Diabetes UK, and is the largest corporate partnership donation in the charity’s history.
Over £1 million to Diabetes UK
Including matched funding from the HBOS Foundation, the HBOS Charity of the Year programme - the Million £ Challenge - topped £4 million for the first time in 2008. Over £2 million will go to the lead charity CLIC Sargent. Diabetes UK and Age Concern will each receive over £1 million as runner-up charities.
Highlights of fundraising
Money-raising highlights included an online auction, dress-down days, a holiday raffle, fun runs and marathons. The Bank of Scotland Corporate Cairngorm Mountain Bike Challenge raised a staggering £700,000 matched in one weekend alone.
Funding mobile screening centres
"Thanks to the fantastic efforts of HBOS colleagues, customers and stakeholders, Diabetes UK will now be able to forge ahead with the important plans made at the start of the partnership: funding mobile screening centres to inform, advise and screen 1.5 million people for diabetes over two years," said Ros Luckman, Head of Partnerships at Diabetes UK.
