Importance of research
Dr Victoria King, Head of Research at leading health charity Diabetes UK, said: "The UK is currently one of the leading innovators in the field of clinical and medical research, nurturing home grown scientists and attracting many of the best researchers from abroad because of this. Many people with diabetes, and other health conditions, have in one way or another benefited from research. If huge cuts in science research spending take place it will not only affect the UK research environment for years to come but most importantly it will affect the patients in the UK who benefit from the outcomes of research investment and changes to treatment because of it. Diabetes UK is supporting the Science is Vital campaign to make the Government understand the importance of continued investment in research to improve the lives of people living with diabetes and other conditions."
