Over 130 runners braved the Scottish winter on Saturday and took part in the Bupa Great Winter Run, hoping to raise thousands for Diabetes UK. A big thank you to all our runners who completed the 5k course, which is set in the picturesque Holyrood Park in the centre of Edinburgh.
The event marks the beginning of a partnership between Bupa and Diabetes UK, who will be the nominated charity for the Bupa Great Run Series for 2012.
Great start to partnership
Mark Fox, Events Manager for Diabetes UK said, "This was our first event of the year and was a great way to start our partnership with Bupa. To have so many people turning up and wearing the Diabetes UK colours was amazing, and we really can’t thank everyone enough for all of their efforts."
Diabetes is one of the greatest health challenges facing the NHS, with 2.9 million people diagnosed with the condition in the UK. To help tackle the growing problem, Diabetes UK is set to raise over £1 million a year through the partnership with Bupa, which will also see the organisations delivering a series of events around the country to raise awareness of diabetes and help people to take positive steps to improve their health.
