Diabetes Week

Diabetes Week is an annual highlight in the Diabetes UK calendar. It’s a time when we bring our supporters together to raise awareness of the condition, and vital funds for our work.

Diabetes Week 2017

Sunday 11 June to Saturday 17 June 2017

This year, you may have noticed that we have begun to look a little different, to sound a little different and that we've changed our strapline.

The simple fact is, diabetes is serious. There are currently 4.5 million people in the UK living with the condition, and 11.9 million more at increased risk of getting Type 2 diabetes.

Despite these huge numbers, 25 per cent of people don't think diabetes is something to worry about. They aren't concerned about diabetes, and they don't understand what it is. It's our job to change that, to make people stand up and take notice.

That's why our new strapline, and the theme for Diabetes Week 2017 is Know Diabetes. Fight Diabetes.

Today, 65 people will die early from the condition and hundreds more will face life-changing complications that could have been avoided or delayed if they'd had the right knowledge and support to manage their condition. Some of you have that, and are already doing everything you can to manage your diabetes well.

But this isn't true for everyone and it's our job to change that.

We know that the right knowledge has the power to transform lives. Knowledge gained from the experience of people living with diabetes, knowledge gained from research discoveries, knowledge from the people working with diabetes every day.

And we know that we have a long way to go before we reach a world where diabetes can do no harm. So we are fighting for change. We are fighting the injustice that is the lottery in how diabetes care and support is delivered. We are fighting the challenge for equal access to new technologies in diabetes management, and we are fighting against the daily stigma and discrimination that comes from a lack of understanding of the condition.

So, we are asking you to join us. What will you do this Diabetes Week to know diabetes? What can you do this Diabetes Week to fight diabetes?

Our vision is a world where diabetes can do no harm. Together, we can make that a reality.

Setting the record straight Diabetes week 12-18 JuneDiabetes Week 2016

Sunday 12 June to Saturday 18 June 2016

Just about everyone has heard about diabetes. And, with 3.5 million people diagnosed in the UK and a further 549,000 who have the condition but don't yet know it, most of us know a friend or family member living with diabetes. And yet it’s still hugely misunderstood, and there are so many myths and misconceptions out there that this year, the we decided the theme should be Setting the record straight.

Last year we called on everyone we know to share straight talking stories, facts and videos to let everyone know the truth about diabetes.

We focused on what it’s actually like to live with it every day and talked about the things people with diabetes wish everyone knew about living with the condition.
