A Diabetes UK Type 1 Event is packed with fun activities and adventure. It also offers a unique opportunity to be among people who understand. For many, it is the first step to managing their own diabetes.

Developing a positive attitude and establishing self-confidence in the management of diabetes is a key objective of the holidays.

Although we cater for a large age range, children are put into groups with people of a similar age.

Younger children are not with teenagers, and each have a specific programme catering for their age group.

Meals are planned to meet the variety of needs of everyone, and the programme schedule is planned to develop your child's understanding of their diabetes whilst having fun. We check all our venues and ensure that, where appropriate, each centre is accredited by the nationally recognised authority (AALA) and are also approved by Diabetes UK.

All holiday sites have qualified staff and instructors who are very aware of the needs of children/teenagers with diabetes.

Doctors, nurses and dietitians provide daily supervision of your child's diabetes management. Many of the staff have diabetes themselves and attended Diabetes UK Type 1 Events during their own childhood. Through example, they serve as role models for a healthy and happy life.

  • Newly diagnosed children
  • First-time applicants
  • Referral from medical/professional bodies
  • Children who have not attended in the last three years
  • All applications will be date stamped and places offered on a first-come, first-served basis in line with the selection criteria.
