Peter McAuley was presented with the award at a ceremony held at the Titanic Belfast on Saturday 2 June and sponsored by one of NI’s leading electricity suppliers, Click Energy.

Peter has been an active volunteer for us, taking on roles such as raising awareness about the serious complications associated with diabetes, speaking out about the importance of good relationships with healthcare professionals and representing people living with diabetes on the Diabetes Network.

Collecting the award, Peter said, “I got involved with Diabetes UK Northern Ireland because of the fantastic care I received with my diabetes and I wanted to give something back to try to help others living with the condition. I never expected to be picking up an award! I really enjoy what I do; getting to meet people, raising awareness about diabetes and helping the charity. Hopefully as more of us talk about diabetes, more of us will get the help we need to manage it well. Getting this award is very special so thank you to those who nominated me.”

“Peter is driven to help others and speaks with such passion about diabetes and is always willing to do his bit to raise awareness. Peter will speak to anyone about diabetes and has supported Diabetes UK Northern Ireland whenever he can." Jillian Patchett, National Director.

Jillian added: “Huge thanks to Peter for all that he continues to do and I would like to extend that thanks to all of our fantastic campaigners and influencers – we could not do what we do without your help, dedication and support. Congratulations to everyone who was nominated and to those who continue to support people living with diabetes below the radar.”

Click Energy Managing Director, Damian Wilson, added: "The staff at Click Energy selected Diabetes UK Northern Ireland as the charity of the year for our organisation and we are thrilled to have been able to work together on this event as part of our charity partnership.

“The Inspire Awards provide a great platform for recognising and rewarding the contributions of the many volunteers who are doing great work to support those living with diabetes and to raise awareness surrounding the condition in Northern Ireland.”

Each winner received an Inspire Award from us and a gift from Click Energy including £250 vouchers for Hastings Hotels and £250 vouchers for Currys/PC World.
