Diabetes is Serious - Museum of Liverpool

Banner for Diabetes is Serious Rewrite the Story art exhibition

Starting on World Diabetes Day, Tuesday 14 November 2023, Diabetes UK will be showcasing the Diabetes is Serious - Rewrite the Story art exhibition on the Museum of Liverpool's digital entrance screen.

What is the Diabetes is Serious exhibition about?

The exhibition is made up of artwork created by people across the UK who are living with diabetes. The artists were asked to show what diabetes means to them. Together, their work shows that diabetes is relentless, but so are you.

The exhibition has been built into a bespoke two-minute video, that will feature regularly on the Museum of Liverpool's screen for several months. It showcases the artwork whilst also explaining the stark reality of what people in Cheshire, Merseyside and the wider population of the UK are often facing when it comes to diabetes care.

Currently, more than 1 million people have been diagnosed with diabetes in the North of England, with 160,000 of those living with diabetes in Cheshire and Merseyside.

In our 2023 Diabetes is Serious survey, we asked a variety of questions about people's diabetes care in 2022. Findings from this survey are used throughout the piece to support the artwork and show exactly why we are campaigning for change.

From photography and collage, to oil painting and sketching, no piece is quite the same, just like everyone's experience with diabetes.

When can I see the Diabetes is Serious exhibition?

The video will be playing for a limited time, so don't miss it. It will be on rotation throughout the day on the digital screen in the main entrance hall. Diabetes UK's North of England team will also be taking over the entrance area of the Museum of Liverpool on World Diabetes Day, to launch the exhibition. Come along on Tuesday 14 November 2023 to say hello. Our friendly team will be on hand to share information, answer questions, and talk you through the artwork.
