Be a record breaker at the JCP Swansea Half Marathon

Last year our team of Type 1 runners broke a world record at the JCP Swansea Half Marathon. This year, we want you to help us break it again!

A total of 69 runners with Type 1 diabetes completed last year’s race: the highest number of people with the condition to run a half marathon together.

We want to bring an even bigger team to the starting line on Sunday 23 June.

Why a world record?

The idea to set a world record came from volunteer Paul Coker. In 2017, Paul celebrated his 40th anniversary of living with Type 1 diabetes by completing 40 half marathons, finishing at the race in Swansea.

Paul is passionate about encouraging others with Type 1 diabetes to enjoy exercise, and that with the right attitude and support, anything is possible.

Creating a community

It’s not just about breaking a record: we want our Type 1 Team to inspire others and create a community of people who understand the challenges of life with Type 1 diabetes, and can support each other.

We have a number of guaranteed charity places in this year’s event, so make sure you register and then drop us a line at Wales@diabetes.org.uk with the email subject “Type 1 team”.
