Influenza and Pneumococcal vaccinations (October 2014)

Influenza is highly infectious and pneumococcal pneumonia is a severe illness. People with diabetes are more at risk of complications arising from infections including influenza and pneumonia.

Diabetes UK recommends that people with diabetes should be offered an annual vaccination to protect them against influenza (flu) and a single vaccination to protect them from pneumonia.

The National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has published a Quality Standard on 'Flu Vaccination: increasing uptake'. Diabetes UK formally supports this Quality Standard.
