Scotland Talks Diabetes is Diabetes Scotland’s video podcast dedicated to honest, open conversations about life with diabetes.
Through real-life stories and lived experiences, the series brings together a wide variety of people who are affected by and living with diabetes, alongside healthcare professionals who support people with the condition every day. From people living with type 1, type 2 and other forms of diabetes, to family members, volunteers and clinical experts, each guest brings their own unique perspective and experiences.
Hosted by Scottish national radio broadcaster Lynsey Gibson, who lives with type 1 diabetes, the podcast offers a unique and authentic perspective. Lynsey's lived experience helps shape meaningful conversations that reflect the realities of life with diabetes, creating a space where listeners can learn, connect and feel understood.
Together, we explore the realities of living with diabetes, from managing day-to-day challenges and emotional wellbeing to navigating healthcare, technology, travel, exercise, sport and much more. Episode 1: Diabetes and Stigma
In the first episode of Scotland Talks Diabetes, host Lynsey, who lives with type 1 diabetes, is joined by Diabetes Scotland volunteer Kirsty for an honest conversation about the realities of living with diabetes. Together, they explore the stigma, misconceptions and assumptions they've faced, and the impact these can have on everyday life. Through personal stories and lived experience, they discuss why greater understanding matters and how challenging stigma can help create a more supportive future for everyone affected by diabetes.
Episode 2: Diabetes and Sport
In this episode of Scotland Talks Diabetes, host Lynsey Gibson, is joined by Ava and Luke to discuss their experiences of staying active, competing in sport and balancing diabetes with training and fundraising. They're also joined by diabetes specialist Brian, who shares expert insight and practical advice on exercising safely and confidently with diabetes.
Episode 3: Diabetes and Travel
In this episode of Scotland Talks Diabetes, host Lynsey, is joined by Jonathan to explore how diabetes and travel can go hand in hand. Diagnosed in his twenties after years of travelling the world, Jonathan shares how he adapted, planned ahead and built the confidence to continue pursuing his passion for adventure, including solo trips across South America.
