What is the 62 Miles in October Challenge?

Your Challenge, Your Way.

62 Miles in October is a virtual fundraising challenge. The goal is simple: complete 62 miles throughout October, but how you do it is entirely up to you.

Walk, run, jog, wheel, or mix it up!

You set the pace and choose how to split the miles across the month. Whether it’s two miles a day or longer weekend sessions, it’s your challenge to personalise.

You won’t be alone, our Facebook group is full of challengers ready to support you.

  • When you sign up and set up your fundraising page, we’ll send you a free Diabetes UK T-shirt and a progress tracker.

Once received, use your tracker to log your miles each day and see your progress grow. It’s a great way to stay motivated and feel proud.

Earn fantastic rewards along the way!

  • If you raise £50 or more, you can receive a brand new beanie.
  • If you raise £100 or more, you can earn a fantastic new medal.

How Your Support Helps:

  • £15 could mean someone who has just been diagnosed with diabetes can get the tailored support and advice they need, when they need it, from our Learning Zone.
  • £100 could help us host an event in a local community space, inviting healthcare professionals to deliver talks on important topics to support people to live well with diabetes.

Keep your sponsors updated and be clear about how far you've come in your challenge, and make sure they are still happy to donate to Diabetes UK.

What safety measures should I consider?

When participating in our 62 Miles in October Challenge, your safety is our top priority. Here are some precautions we recommend you consider:

  • Inform someone: Ensure a trusted person knows your detailed plans including your route and expected return time.
  • Communication: Always carry a fully charged phone with you in case you need to contact someone in an emergency.
  • Alertness: Make sure you stay vigilant and aware of your surroundings at all times.
  • Rest and hydration: Take rest days when needed to avoid fatigue. Stay hydrated, particularly in warm weather, to prevent dehydration.
  • Knowing your limits: You know yourself best and what you're capable of. We highly advise you carefully consider the distance you plan to cover in one go.
  • Weather: Be prepared for the UK's interchangeable weather. Ensure you have appropriate clothing, footwear, and equipment for adverse or hot weather conditions.

Do I need to submit my miles to prove I’ve completed the challenge?

This is a self-led challenge, no need to submit proof.
It’s all about coming together as a community to support a cause that matters to you. It’s not a competition just a chance to challenge yourself, have fun, and make a real difference by fundraising for Diabetes UK!

My T-shirt hasn’t arrived yet. What’s the next step?

If it’s been more than 10 days since you set up your fundraising page, and you’ve registered and received a welcome email from us, but still haven’t received your T-shirt please get in touch.
