Gifts in Wills Discovery Event
Wednesday 18 November, from 6pm to 7.30pm
Join us for this free online event on Zoom to hear personal stories, learn about the incredible work gifts in Wills help fund and discover how a gift in your Will could help us move closer to a world without diabetes.
Now in its fourth year, the event is a chance to hear directly from Diabetes UK researchers, people living with diabetes and those who have kindly chosen to remember Diabetes UK in their Will.
The evening will be hosted by Dr Elizabeth Robertson, Director of Research and Clinical at Diabetes UK, who will share the latest developments in diabetes research, where we’re focusing our efforts next and what those advances could mean for people living with diabetes.
Gifts in Wills raise over 40% of Diabetes UK’s voluntary donations each year. They help fund pioneering research, specialist advice and support that changes lives. Throughout the evening, you’ll hear different perspectives on why this support matters and the difference a gift in your Will can make.
Speakers include:
- Dr Pia Leete, Diabetes UK-funded researcher, will explain how her research is helping us understand how type 1 diabetes develops and how this knowledge could lead to more personalised treatments.
- Graham Spooner, Diabetes UK supporter who lives with type 2 diabetes, will share his personal experience of the condition, the impact it has had on his family and what inspired him to leave a gift in his Will to Diabetes UK.
- Emily Littlehales, Solicitor at Celtic Law, will talk through some of the practical things to consider when making or updating a Will and answer common questions about leaving a charitable gift.
- Adam Mayze, Diabetes UK Youth Coordinator, and one of our inspiring Young Leaders, will talk about the Young Leaders programme, personal experiences of living with diabetes, and the impact of the programme on the young people we support.
