Go to great lengths for Diabetes UK

Do you want to make a real splash? Can you swim 22 miles – the equivalent of the English Channel – in your local pool?

Get sponsored to swim the 22 miles and with every length you complete you’ll be funding research into new treatments, techniques and our search for a cure. The money you raise will help us fund campaigns which secure better care and means we can be there for people with diabetes when they need us most.

Join the challenge on your own, as part of a team, club or school and swim the 22 miles in your own time. So whether you are a solo swimmer or part of a team, it’s time to get your goggles on and go to great lengths for people with diabetes.

How do I take part?

You can register here and start your swim for Diabetes UK.  When you have registered, we will send you information to help you get started as well as a Swim22 swimming cap. You will have access to a website, only for Swim22 registrants, where you can record your lengths, with prizes to be won for passing fundraising and distance milestones.

Note the length of your local pool and log the number of lengths you complete or simply put in the distance into the Swim22 website. You can also register with friends, colleagues or as a school and check your progress against other swimmers. You have until 22 May to complete this swim for Diabetes UK, and we will be on hand to help you swim the distance of the English Channel and raise vital funds for people with diabetes.

Once you’ve dived in, don’t forget to let everyone know how you’re doing. Share you photos and experiences of Swim22 on social media with your friends, families and us. Use #swim22 and join the Swim22 community on Twitter, a great source of advice, tips and support from your fellow swimmers.

Health Benefits

Swimming will help you on your way to a fitter, healthier lifestyle. Many of our Swim22 participants are now regular swimmers and come back to take on this challenge again.

Whether you are new to swimming and just want to start some regular exercise or a regular at the pool who wants a new charity challenge, Swim22 is for you.

I never thought I would be able to swim 22 miles! But having a weekly goal has helped me get into regular exercise and lose weight. It’s been an amazing personal achievement and this year I know I can smash 22 miles in half the time!
