Phil Anderson

Phil Anderson, a 40-year-old financial advisor from Ellon in Aberdeenshire, took part in Swim22 in both 2015 and 2016. He said: “I chose swimming as it isn’t hard on your body. I found I could go at lunchtime and rattle off 40 to 64 lengths, bringing me a kilometre or a mile closer to reaching my total.”

Phil has raised over £1,000 for Diabetes UK, getting us a step closer to a future where diabetes can do no harm. For Phil, there were personal benefits to taking part. His fitness improved massively and he lost a lot of excess weight - from a starting point of 18st 9lbs, his weight fell to under 14st. Combining exercise with a healthier approach to food has helped him to reduce his risk of developing Type 2 diabetes while massively improving his swimming.Swimming was just the start of Phil’s fitness kick and he’s all set and ready to go for the challenge again in 2017 with his partner. Swim22 is perfect for anyone who wants to challenge themselves to get fitter and to keep physically active, in turn helping them to maintain a healthy weight, which also helps prevent Type 2 diabetes. People with diabetes can also help manage their condition through getting plenty of exercise and eating healthily.Get your goggles on and join Phil and the rest of Team Diabetes UK by taking on theSwim 22 challenge
