Team Em and Me!

In April 2012 Alison’s sister Emily suddenly passed away in her sleep. Emily was 29 years old and had been living a very full life with Type 1 diabetes for a decade, but for some reason that night, she experienced a dramatic hypo that contributed to her death.

A group of 15 of Emily’s family, friends, colleagues and her partner Adam, decided to run the London marathon in 2013 in Emily’s memory, and to raise funds for Diabetes UK.

Team Em And Me! (TEAM)  have currently raised over £43,000 - a truly fantastic amount, and well above their £30,000 target.

"Emily would have had a place to run the London Marathon in 2013 as her first marathon so it seemed fitting that we took on this challenge for her. Emily was an enthusiastic fundraiser for Diabetes UK having raised money through other running events before, and therefore in having run London 2013 for Diabetes UK, our team is continuing her contribution.

"It really means a lot to us that the money will help others manage their condition, but also that it can help fund research into ultimately finding a cure for Type 1."
