Clare and her local group have been campaigning for almost 10 years.

Clare Allom symbolises the incredible work our campaigners do, asDiabetes Voices. For seven years, Clare, supported and encouraged by fellow members of herDiabetes UK South Tyneside local group - have been campaigning to improve diabetes care for people in Tyneside.

That has culminated in the opening of a ‘one-stop shop’ for diabetes care, giving anyone with diabetes the opportunity to attend regular check-ups such as eye and foot screenings, blood tests,or podiatry sessions all under one roof.

Thanks to this hub for health and to Clare's work, people in the area have more support, making it less likely that they will experience diabetes-related complications.

Clare, who has Type 2 diabetes, started campaigning when the equivalent service was closed down. She campaigned for almost 10 years to get it started again.

As a result of her efforts there are three separate one-stop shops offered in her Clinical Commissioning Group area helping dozens of people.

Clare is currently campaigning for a small gym, or gym sessions, to accommodate people living with long-term conditions, including diabetes, where they can feel comfortable and safe.

For her campaigning work, Clare was named as one of theDiabetes UK Inspire Award winners for 2016.
