Type 2 Diabetes and Meis our free step-by-step online guide for anyone who has recently received a Type 2 diagnosis and those living with or affected by Type 2 diabetes who want a refresher about their condition and the options and support available to them.
A Type 2 diabetes diagnosis can be overwhelming. There's so much information available, it can be difficult to take it all in. Our free guide, developed by Diabetes UK and Bupa, allows you to get all the facts, in your own time, at your own pace.
The Type 2 Diabetes and me online training was invaluable in helping cement my understanding of my condition, and excellent in helping those around me understand and assist me.
How will I learn?
Type 2 diabetes and me is fun and easy to use. The online guide uses Type 2 diabetes factsheets, videos and quizzes, to help you to understand your condition. You can dip in and out of the modules at any time, so you learn at your own pace. There are no tests to pass and you can check your progress by taking a quiz at the end of each module.
What will I learn?
The guide is split into 5 easy-to-follow sections covering:
- what Type 2 diabetes is
- information on leading a healthy lifestyle
- how to treat the condition, including glucose monitoring, medication, insulin and the care to expect
- possible complications from Type 2 diabetes and how to reduce them
- practical advice on living with Type 2 diabetes, such as going on holiday and taking out insurance policies.
The guide isn’t intended to replace face-to-face courses although it may be good preparation if you're on a waiting list for one of these courses (such as DESMOND - Diabetes Education for Self-Management for Ongoing and Newly Diagnosed - or X-PERT Diabetes Programme for Type 2 diabetes). You can find out more about diabetes education courseshere.
