Volunteering on Type 1 Events

Our Type 1 Events are a unique experience for children and young people living with type 1 diabetes and their families. The events provide the time and space to build confidence managing type 1 - in a fun and safe environment. And the opportunity to share experiences with people who know what life with type 1 is like.

Family Weekenders offer a weekend away for children and young people with type 1 and their whole family - including siblings, parents, and carers. You can find out everything you need to know about volunteering at a Family Weekender in our What to Expect guide.

Summer Camps are residential camps designed to support children and young people with type 1, without their parents/carers. You can find out everything you need to know about volunteering at a Summer Camp in our What to Expect guide

Who we are looking for

We welcome volunteers with a range of experience and backgrounds. If you’ve worked with children before that’s great, but if you haven’t, please don’t let it stop you from applying.

We value enthusiasm, a sense of fun, ability to work as part of a team and most importantly ability to act responsibly and a genuine desire to help empower children and their families living with type 1 diabetes. Prior knowledge of type 1 diabetes is helpful. Most of our general volunteers have type 1 diabetes themselves, or have a family member or close friend with type 1.

"I enjoy spending time with other diabetics like myself, be it adults and children. It’s really fulfilling seeing the children grow throughout their time at the event."

Abigail, general volunteer
