Currently, there are 100,000 people living with either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes in Northern Ireland, and this figure is on the rise, making the need for education and awareness surrounding the condition more important than ever.

Managing Director of Click Energy NI, Damian Wilson, was joined by the National Director of Diabetes UK Northern Ireland, Jillian Patchett, to mark the partnership, which will include funding for pilot programmes, helping to champion a parents’ peer support network and involvement in the 2018 Diabetes Volunteer Inspire Awards.

Speaking at the launch of the partnership, Jillian Patchett, National Director of Diabetes UK Northern Ireland commented: “World Diabetes Day aims to raise awareness of diabetes among the public and I can’t think of a better time to launch our new charity partnership with Click Energy.

“Click Energy’s involvement with our organisation will enable Diabetes UK Northern Ireland to bring to fruition projects that will help to educate the public on diabetes and support families. This includes education on the management of the condition and living with diabetes, plus our partnership will help to reward all of our Diabetes UK Northern Ireland volunteers who give so much of their time to the benefit others.”

Established in November 2015, Click Energy is Northern Ireland’s fastest growing electricity company. With almost 30,000 customers, the company has taken part in many fundraising events for several charities over the last two years however this is its first official charity partnership.

Damian Wilson, Managing Director of Click Energy, added: “As a local company, we wanted to partner with a charity that would ensure that the funds we raised would be distributed to communities across Northern Ireland.

“We asked our team to choose their charity of choice for 2018, and Diabetes UK Northern Ireland came out on tops. As the parent of a child with diabetes, I understand the importance of the work that Diabetes UK Northern Ireland delivers and we are very much looking forward to generating much-needed funds for Diabetes UK Northern Ireland in 2018.”

The Diabetes UK Northern Ireland and Click Energy partnership will see Click Energy donating a substantial sum to the charity, which will help Diabetes UK Northern Ireland deliver programs that can make a difference to diabetics of all ages and their families in 2018.
