On Sunday 16 June cyclists will be taking on the ChallengeHer Cycling Sportive in aid of local charity Diabetes UK Northern Ireland.

This event was originally designed by women for women to take part in cycling but now the invite has been extended for men to join the challenge too. There are two routes available; 30 miles and 50 miles, and all proceeds will go towards supporting the diabetes community in Northern Ireland. There are over 100,000 people living with diabetes in Northern Ireland.

New research released by us has found that seven out of ten people feel overwhelmed by the demands of living with diabetes, which significantly affects their mental and physical health.

The survey of more than 2,000 adults with Type 1, Type 2 and other types of diabetes from across the UK shows that the majority (three quarters) of those who feel overwhelmed say that this affects how well they can manage the condition.

A Dungannon woman and her running partner are running two marathons for Diabetes UK and HUGS (Spina Bifida and hydrocephalus) and have organised a special Texas Hold’em poker night on Friday 5 April at the Tullysaran Community Centre.

Rebecca Irwin and Vincent Conlon are taking on the Belfast City Marathon and the Dublin Marathon within nine months to help raise awareness about diabetes.

Kim Armstrong is taking on the swimming challenge of the year, Swim 22, between 22 February and 22 May because her daughter, Joanne, was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

Dungannon woman, Rebecca Irwin, is taking on a double marathon challenge for two local charities in the next twelve months.

There are currently 100,000 people living with diabetes in Northern Ireland.

Diabetes is a serious condition, where there is too much glucose in the blood because the body cannot use it properly.
