The London Region team have begun organising awareness talks online to create new opportunities to share knowledge.
Diabetes UK volunteers delivered key talks to staff at the Home Office and the Metropolitan Police Service as the London Region team moved its diabetes awareness programme online.
The Home Office talk was given by volunteers Karen Hines, who works for the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme, and Chiedu Hing, who is a registered nutritionist and lifestyle coach.
They worked together to plan and deliver the talk, which was well received by the staff who appreciated the experience our volunteers were able to bring to the event.
Anthony Walker, London Regional Support Officer, hosted the talks and said:
“It was a great opportunity to use video conferencing to raise awareness and re-connect with organisations we’d lined up for face-to-face events with before lockdown.”
The Met Police talk was given by Hadiza Adeyemi and Charlie Churchill as part of a Wellbeing Day at the force. The talk combined Hadiza’s passion with a background of raising awareness of diabetes in the UK and abroad and Charlie’s experience of living with diabetes.
Feedback from the Metropolitan Police Service stated:
“Thank you so much for a very informative session this afternoon, it was really interesting.”
As well as presenting, the four volunteers also answered questions from the audience at both talks and were able to highlight how Diabetes UK can help people with diabetes through our dedicated helpline, campaigns, and fundraising events like the One Million Steps challenge.
