Clayton-le-Woods man’s third Channel Swim challenge for us

A web designer from Clayton-le-Woods, who has lost almost 150lbs after finding out he was at high risk of Type 2 diabetes, is swimming the equivalent of the English Channel to raise vital funds for us.

Nick Else, 32, is taking on the swimming challenge, Swim 22, for the third time between 22 February and 22 May having first taken part in 2016.

Since starting out on his weight loss journey two years ago, following a warning from his doctor and weighing over 300lbs Nick has lost almost half of his body weight (pictured above before and after).

He said: “After being told I could develop the condition if I didn’t make some lifestyle changes, I was determined to get my life back on track. I started going to the gym, exercising more and changed my diet. Swim22 was a great way to stay focused as it gave me a target to work towards.”

“I was no longer at high risk of Type 2 in December 2016, so last year’s challenge was about keeping up the momentum of my weight loss journey and staying active. This year I’m aiming to really push myself and hope to complete the 22 miles in just one month.”

Vickie Butcher, Diabetes UK North West Regional Fundraiser said: “We are delighted that Nick is going the extra mile for Diabetes UK for the third year running. The lengths that he is going to will bring us closer to our vision of a world where diabetes can do no harm."
