With summer holidays fast approaching, Diabetes UK’s South East Coast and London team will host two free online events in July for people planning to travel – focusing on what travellers with diabetes need to consider.

The first event, on Wednesday 5 July, is aimed at young travellers with type 1 diabetesThe second event is open to all, taking place on Wednesday 19 July. Both take place at 6pm and will take place on Zoom.

Harry Steele, who lives with type 1 diabetes and is planning a trip to Japan, says:

“Visiting another country is exciting, but it can also be a bit scary if you don’t speak the language and are carrying insulin injections in your carry-on luggage. You’re also away from your usual support network - friends, healthcare professionals and others who know what to do when your blood sugar goes high or low.”

Dr Mayank Patel, Consultant in Diabetes at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, will be the speaker at both events and will be tackling Harry’s concerns and more, including what to consider as a driver living with diabetes. The events will include questions from the audience on the night.
