Row, row, row your boat

Two fearless Diabetes UK supporters will row almost 3,000 miles across the Atlantic ocean to raise funds for the charity.

Neil Hunter, who has insulin-treated Type 2 diabetes, from Surrey, and Scott McNaughton from North Hertfordshire, will leave La Gomera, Canary Islands, on 2 December and aim to arrive in Antigua 60 days later.

You can sponsor Scott and Neil by visitingtheir Justgiving website.

Neil Hunter said, “This will be a tough test of physical and mental stamina but I’m looking forward to the challenge!

"We will undertake alternate shifts – two hours on, two hours off – day and night. I have diabetes and managing the condition will be an added challenge, but I have never let diabetes stop me from doing what I want.”

Scott McNaughton said, “We’ve no engine, no sails and no keel, but we do have a 23-foot rowing boat, some oars and a lot of heart!

"Diabetes is a cause close to our hearts and we want to raise awareness of the condition and raise at least £20,000 to support the vital work of Diabetes UK.

"My colleagues at BDO Stoy Hayward have already given me a great start with generous sponsorship and I hope many more people will follow as this is such a great cause.”
