Diabetes Challenge off to a flying start

In its first month, 60 challenges have been created on Diabetes UK’s new Diabetes Challenge fundraising website.

Each challenger aims to reach a fundraising target for Diabetes UK by completing a challenge set by themselves or a friend.

How Diabetes Challenge works

Diabetes Challenge is a fun and interactive site that enables anybody to challenge themselves or someone else to raise funds for Diabetes UK.

People can lay down a challenge of their choice, to a person of their choice, including friends and family members. The site also makes it easy to share challenges with friends and gain supporters through Twitter, Facebook and other popular social media.

Inspiring challenges

Challenges can be anything from climbing Mount Everest to bathing in baked beans or making a colleague a cuppa everyday for a week – anything goes!

One dedicated fundraiser has challenged himself to go the whole of October without sugary food or drink, and one plucky supporter has pledged to be filmed having his legs waxed.

Another creative contributor has challenged herself to travel the entire flight from London to Auckland, New Zealand, in her pyjamas, while Diabetes UK’s own staff have taken on challenges from keep-fit to karaoke.

See all the challenges so far - and add your own

These are only a few of the many creative challenges to be found at Diabetes Challenge. Already challengers have raised around £900 and if all challengers meet their fundraising target they will raise a whopping £50,000.

Determination and generosity

“This is a fantastic result,” said Amanda Neylon, Digital Media Manager for Diabetes UK.

“People have been so creative with their challenges and have worked hard to meet them. They have also inspired me and other Diabetes UK staff to get really inventive with our own challenges.

"We are really grateful to every one of the challengers; their determination along with their sponsors’ generosity is raising vital funds to help people with diabetes.”
